Find an Exact Age From a Date of Birth

“How old is this person on that date?” sounds like a simple question until you need it in years, months and days for a form, a school placement or an assessment. The Chronological Age Calculator takes a date of birth and a second date and tells you the exact age between them. Leave the second date on today to see a current age, or change it to any date you need.

Using it costs nothing, you do not need an account, and the dates you enter are not saved.

Use the Age Calculator in Four Steps

  1. Pick the date of birth. Choose the year, month and day in the first set of boxes.
  2. Check the second date. It starts as today. Change it to any date if you need the age on a different day.
  3. Press Calculate Age. The calculator works out the difference.
  4. Read the result. You get the age in years, months and days.

Age Calculator by Date: Check Age on Any Date

Many forms do not ask for your age today. They ask for your age on a particular date, such as the closing date of an application or the first day of a school year. Set the second date to that date and the calculator shows your age on that day. This also works for the past, so you can check how old someone was when something happened, and for the future, so you can see the age you will be on a coming birthday.

Two Worked Examples

Date of birthDateAge
14 March 201020 October 202616 years, 7 months, 6 days
25 August 201210 October 202614 years, 1 month, 15 days

The second example shows why exact ages can look surprising. The day number (10) is smaller than the birth day (25), so a month has to be “borrowed” and the days are counted from the end of the previous month.

How to Calculate Chronological Age by Hand

  1. Write the later date above the birth date. Keep the order of year, month and day.
  2. Subtract the days. If the later day is smaller, borrow a month and add the number of days in the previous month.
  3. Subtract the months. If the later month is smaller, borrow a year and add 12 months.
  4. Subtract the years. The three results are the age in years, months and days.

For 25 August 2012 and 10 October 2026: borrowing from September (30 days), 10 + 30 – 25 = 15 days. The month count drops from 10 to 9, and 9 – 8 = 1 month. The years are 2026 – 2012 = 14. That gives 14 years, 1 month and 15 days.

Chronological Age Calculator for Testing and Assessments

Teachers, psychologists, speech-language professionals and others often need a child’s age in years, months and days to compare a score with test norms. The calculator gives you that figure. Every test has its own rules for counting days and rounding, so follow the manual of the test you are using. This tool is independent and is not affiliated with Pearson or any other test publisher, and it does not score tests. Use the publisher’s own tables for scoring.

Age Calculator for a Child or a Baby

For a child, the years and months are what most checklists use. For a baby, the months and days matter most, because development moves quickly in the first year. Enter the date of birth and today’s date to see an exact age, and use it alongside your doctor’s guidance for check-ups and milestones.

Adjusted Age for Premature Babies

Adjusted age, also called corrected age, is the chronological age minus the number of weeks a baby was born early. Doctors often use it for premature babies in their first couple of years to compare their progress fairly. This calculator shows chronological age. To find the adjusted age, subtract the weeks your baby was early, and ask your pediatrician how long to keep adjusting.

Age Calculator for Forms, School Admission, Exams and Jobs

Schools, exams and employers often set an age rule that applies on a specific date. The notice for an exam such as the National Defence Academy states the date on which your age will be counted, so enter that date in the second box and read your age. Always rely on the official notice for the exact rules, because they can change from year to year.

Age at Death and Memorial Dates

If you are preparing a memorial, an obituary or a family record, you can find a person’s age at death. Enter the date of birth in the first set of boxes and the date of death in the second. The result shows how old they were on that day.

Birthday Age Calculator: How Old Will You Be Next?

To see the age you will turn, set the second date to your next birthday. You can use this to plan a milestone birthday, a party or a countdown, and to check ages for guests or family members.

What About Dog and Cat Age?

This tool calculates human chronological age. Pets age differently, and the old rule of multiplying a dog’s age by seven is only a rough guess. Size, breed and life stage all matter, so ask your vet for a better estimate for your dog or cat.

Quick Age Table for 2026
